Nan Forum: Bringing partners together to develop financial mechanisms for payments for ecosystem services in Nan Province

21-22 March B.E. 2569, the Forest Guardians Project, together with Hug Muang Nan Foundation, RECOFTC, the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), Rak Pa Nan Foundation and the Subcommittee on the Resource-Based Economy, held the “Nan Forum” in Nan Province to develop a range of financial tools to support community forest management. This built on fieldwork that RECOFTC and Hug Muang Nan Foundation have been carrying out with community forests in Nan Province since the beginning of the year.
The forum was part of an effort to expand PES mechanisms to cover a wider range of financial tools, rather than being limited to subsidies from matching funds. It also included other approaches being developed in parallel, such as a provincial-level carbon credit mechanism and sustainability bonds for local government organisations.
