Join us for a discussion forum on lessons from community-led wildfire technologies in Lamphun and Chiang Mai, 21 November 2026

Responding to wildfires requires work on several fronts at once, from preparing personnel and volunteers, planning monitoring and patrols, and establishing firebreaks, to using technology to support these efforts. Through the project to strengthen community capacity to fight wildfires with technology, communities in the area have learned about and adopted several types of technology to support wildfire management in their own areas, including:

• IP cameras for monitoring the situation
• Camera traps and drones for surveying and monitoring areas
• IoT-controlled sprinkler firebreaks

Each type of technology has different benefits and limitations, while each community has its own landscape and ways of working. The experience has therefore included successes, problems and interesting challenges that communities can share to learn from one another.

Discussion forum: “Sharing lessons and looking ahead to community-led wildfire technologies”

The forum provides a space for representatives of target communities and communities adopting the approach from Lamphun and Chiang Mai to meet, share experiences, reflect on lessons and present ways to develop and build on this work. Together, they will explore approaches to wildfire management and technology that meet communities’ needs.
