Beginning work with the first 15 communities in 4 southern coastal provinces
In the project’s first year, 15 pilot communities were selected in Satun, Songkhla, Phatthalung and Nakhon Si Thammarat Provinces, covering both open-sea coastal areas and the Songkhla Lake ecosystem.

TSWA began work in its first year with 15 pilot communities in 4 southern coastal provinces: Satun Province (Ban Talo Sai, Ban Lom Pun, Ban Khon Khlan and Ban Bo Chet Luk); Songkhla Province (Ban Khok Mueang, Ban Mai, Ban Thale Nok and Ban Phang Sai); Phatthalung Province (Ban Khlong Khut, Ban Chai Khlong and Ban Laem Din); and Nakhon Si Thammarat Province (Ban Sa Bua, Ban Nai Thung, Ban Na Thap and Ban Pak Duat).
Sites were selected based on both the communities’ readiness to organise and the diversity of their ecological contexts. They cover open-sea areas along the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand coasts, as well as the distinct brackish-water ecosystem of Songkhla Lake. This will ensure that lessons from the first year reflect the diverse contexts in which the project will expand its work in subsequent years.
