On 8 August B.E. 2568, the project committee announced the 28 entries that had passed the screening stage and would proceed to the site visits, from more than 157 applicants in total. Entries were scored against 5 criteria: the importance of the problem, creativity/new innovation, potential to scale up in communities, prospects for creating social impact, and feasibility for further development. Each criterion was worth 5 points, for a total of 25 points.
From 2-18 September B.E. 2568, the team travelled to all 4 regions of the country (the South, Central, Northeast and North) to see the entries in person and interview the Grassroots Innovators at their workplaces. The entries covered a range of work, including AiFarm, a water-quality monitoring system for shrimp ponds in Chachoengsao Province; an electric wheelchair in Samut Sakhon Province; and an alternative-energy motorcycle powered by bamboo charcoal in Phrae Province. The information gathered was then taken into the final selection process.
