Ban Pak Kong Tawan Ok, Lampang Province, is one of the communities working with Nawattakam Chao Ban Co., Ltd., the mentoring organisation responsible for the areas of Tak, Lamphun and Lampang under the PES mechanism. After receiving funding and equipment to create firebreaks, establish a patrol team and purchase communication equipment in B.E. 2569, satellite imagery data (NASA FIRMS/VIIRS) confirmed that hotspots in the community forest had fallen significantly, to just 9 throughout the fire season.
The outcome in Ban Pak Kong Tawan Ok is one of the clearest examples of the PES mechanism this year, alongside the case of Ban Khlong Sak, Tak Province, which was able to protect 97 per cent of its community forest. These cases confirm that funding combined with a transparent, science-based monitoring system can genuinely help communities manage forests more effectively.
