Redesigning the experience-from-friends page as an easy-to-search feed, with AI helping the team screen content before publication

Jaidee has redesigned the experience-from-friends page to make stories easier to find and scroll through in a social media-style feed. AI also helps screen and recommend categories for more than 20,000 stories submitted by users, so the team can publish valuable content more quickly and accurately.

A new experience feed that is easy to search and scroll, like social media

The “Experiences from Friends” page has changed from the old format, where users browsed one subtopic at a time, to a two-column card feed (which switches to a single column on small mobile screens). Users can select a problem category they are interested in and scroll through stories continuously. A search box stays fixed at the top, even when users scroll down. When they type a search term, the system immediately highlights matching words on the cards. A “Shuffle” button lets them keep switching to different stories in the same category without seeing repeats.

The selected category is linked directly to the page URL, so users can share a link with friends that opens straight to the category they are interested in. They can also use the browser’s back and forward buttons to switch between the category list and the feed as usual.

AI helps screen experiences before they reach the admins

Behind the experience page, the team has added an AI system that automatically assesses every story submitted by a user. It evaluates how clear the story is, how practical the problem-solving approach shared by its author is, and whether there are any special warning signs, such as signs of a real-time crisis, information that could identify the person who submitted the story, or words that need editing to make the content appropriate for teenagers. It also recommends the category that best matches the content for admins to select immediately.

The system groups stories into sets that are ready for publication, sets that need further consideration, and sets that are unsuitable for publication. This lets admins focus their time first on the stories most worth considering, rather than reading every story in the order it was submitted, as before. For stories with signs that the person who submitted them is experiencing a real-time crisis, the system immediately displays information about support organisations selected by the team on the thank-you page for the person to see, and alerts admins to review the story first.

The aim of both features is to help the team select and publish valuable experiences from more than 20,000 submitted stories more quickly and accurately, while keeping the final decision about which stories to publish in human hands, as before.
